Neuro-development assessments in a supportive and nurturing environment

At Jorja Healthcare, we offer neuro-development assessments for children from the age of 3 years, and assessments for ADHD (6 to 18 years old) and ASD (autism) for children from 5 to 18 years of age.  We work with highly qualified Consultant Paediatricians in an environment that is safe and comforting for you and your child, while respecting their dignity to ensure that the assessment process is as effective and smooth as possible. Once a diagnosis has been made (or ruled out), children and adolescents can benefit from various treatment options.

Neuro-developmental disorders are conditions that affect the way the brain functions. These impairments may be mild and allow a child to live a fairly normal life. In other cases, they may be more severe and require lifelong support.

Examples of such disorders include intellectual disability, ASD (autism), ADHD), motor disorders and specific learning disorders.

Every child is different and there is no typical patient-journey for any child with a neuro-divergent condition, however, the first step for assessing neuro-development issues in children is usually an initial consultation with our Consultant Paediatrician, which will take about an hour and a half.  Following that initial assessment, our consultant will recommend the best course of action and next steps for your child.

When you contact the clinic, our medical secretary team will guide you through the scheduling process.

Frequently asked questions

You would not be suitable for shockwave therapy if:

  • You have a circulation or nerve disorder
  • The target area is infected
  • The target area has a bone condition
  • The target area has an open wound
  • You are pregnant
  • You are on blood thinning medication
  • You are under 18
  • You have metal pins/objects in the target area

Certain medications may be contraindicated such as, anticoagulants or corticosteroids but this would first need to be discussed with your clinician during your consultation.

Each shockwave therapy session at Living Room Health is around 20 minutes.

Typically a patient would be advised to have 4-6 shockwave therapy sessions, with each session 5-10 days apart or maximum benefits.

Shockwave therapy, is a non-invasive procedure which most people find painless. However, depending on the area being treated (if near bone) and the severity of your injury you might feel a little pain or discomfort in the treatment area during the procedure.

Most patients say it feels like small pulses against the skin. Your specialist may be able to adjust the way they use the shockwave device if your pain is significant.

You can book yourself directly in for your shockwave consultation and treatment. During the consultation, your clinician will assess you functionally and scan area using ultrasound to confirm a diagnosis and assess the tissue. In some cases if suspected stress fracture, an MRI scan may be required which we can do on site at an extra cost.

We advise you wear something loose fitting around the area you want treated so the clinician can have access. If not, we can provide a robe and somewhere to change. Some gel will need to be applied to the area for the procedure.

Yes, you will be able to walk after your shockwave therapy. Your clinician and physiotherapist will guide you with a graded rehabilitation program with the shockwave therapy.
